The northeast Lyme community – patients, families, friends, medical professionals, and members of the media — are invited to gather in Albany, N.Y., on July 15th for a very special event.  Focus on Lyme, a national organization committed to improved diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and advocacy for the victims of tick-borne diseases, and the Stram Center for Integrative Medicine, in Delmar, N.Y., have organized a day of extraordinary informational presentations followed by a cocktail reception/fundraiser that will feature a raffle for two tickets to Broadway’s hottest show, Hamilton, and an overnight stay in NYC!

The Lyme Action Network has joined the effort to help spread the word!

The Forum will begin with insights and new developments in the field from featured speakers, Paul Keim, PH.D.; Richard Horowitz, MD; Ronald Stram, MD. Holly Ahern, MS, MT (ASCP) will moderate the discussions.

Dr.Keim will discuss the progress of LymeSeq, the DNA diagnostic tool that has been validated by the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). This test is able to discern multiple species of Borrelia, major co-infections, and non-Borrelia causes of disease (like influenza).

Dr. Keim, an internationally recognized expert in DNA based research methods, is Director of Pathogen Genomics at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). He also is: Director of the Cowden Endowed Chair of Microbiology at Northern Arizona University (NAU); a research affiliate at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL); a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology; and a recent chair of the National Science Advisory Board on Biodefense (NSABB).

Dr.Horowitz, internationally recognized authority on the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and the Multiple Systemic Infection Syndrome that can accompany a Lyme infection, is the author of the New York Times best-selling book, “Why Can’t I Get Better? Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease” (St. Martin’s Press Books). Dr. Horowitz will share his recent work with new treatment modalities and discuss the new information that has led him to pen a new book sharing the evolving understandings of Lyme and chronic disease.

Dr. Stram, one of the very few experts in treatment of Lyme and TBd’s in the upstate New York region where Lyme is raging at epidemic proportions, will speak about the mounting public health crisis, marked by the rise in incidence and the prevalence of continued symptoms after treatment. He will address the negligence of irresponsible testing to diagnose an infectious disease that has a varied and unpredictable presentation and the dangers inherent in the current reliance on a simplified and outdated understanding of the second highest infectious disease in the country.

Prof. Holly Ahern is Associate Professor of Microbiology at SUNY Adirondack. She is Co-Founder and Vice President of the Lyme Action Network, and a member of the New York State Senate Task force on Lyme and Tick-borne Diseases.  Professor Ahern is an expert in the Lyme disease research history and literature., She has designed educational presentations on the topic being seen around the globe.

In addition to the esteemed presenters, expert panelists who will join in the discussions will include:

He also serves as executive director of the Genomics Core Facility, which is part of the Clinical and Translational Research Institute.  Dr. Ehrlich’s research explores the molecular pathogenesis of chronic infectious diseases.

Inline image 10Dr. Monica Embers, Assistant Professor, Division of Bacteriology and Parasitology, Tulane National Primate Research Center, Tulane University Health Sciences. Dr. Embers’ research program regarding Borrelia burgdorferi and Lyme disease is designed around two major foci: (1) antibiotic efficacy against Lyme disease; and (2) immunodiagnosis for B. burgdorferi infection and cure.

Presenters and panelists will join the Forum audience for the reception. We will also be joined by Congressman Chris Gibson.

We hope you will be able to join us for this extraordinary event!
